I love the South Hill Grill!

I've been here maybe a half dozen times now and I can confidently report the following:

They rock the menu. Food is delicious, flavorful, and thoughtful. Burgers are cooked to spec with a nice char. Beer selection is usually strong.

The patio is cute and comfortable. They do a great job turning what is really a concrete slab on a rather grim, ugly stretch of 29th Ave into something of an oasis. Plants. Warm lighting. Privacy fencing. Water feature. Even live music at just the perfect volume!

The one weakness here is speed of service. I'm almost always here to relax and drink beer so I hardly care, but others may be annoyed at 15-20 minute ticket times for dinner. Sushi will take an extra 5-10 minutes as a rule, so if you like eating all together, ask that they bring it out at the same time.

Wanted to love this place but I was ultimately disappointed with the food that was hit and miss.

Drinks: I ordered a Huckleberry Lemonade that was so sweet it was undrinkable. First time I have ever sent a drink back for being too sweet. However, The Rise Up that I replaced it with nice and my girlfriend had an very good Moscow mule.

Food: The presentation of the food here is great. My girlfriend ordered a steak salad that she loved. I had the club sandwich which turned out to be way too salty. I could only eat a few bites before it got to be too much and fries that came with my sandwich were generic and bland. The salmon and eel sushi we ordered was ok, but had a cool presentation.

Service: The service we recieved here was excellent. Our server was goofy/fun, attentive, and accommodating despite it being quite busy.

Returned to the Grill for Sunday Dinner.  It was pretty rainy so we were indoors this visit.  Once again, the service was prompt and friendly.  We enjoyed the salmon steak and risotto and prime rib with mashed potatoes.  Both were carefully presented and delicious.  The atmosphere  and the food were excellent, just as on our lunch visit.  The blueberry cheesecake was outta sight!  The staff was on the hustle to make sure each dinner party was satisfied.  We're getting that "regular" vibe, see you there!

One of our choices for Restaurant Week and WOW! Awesome choice it was. $21 not including drink or tip. Worth every penny.

    The good:
    - Great service.
    - Awesome food.
    - Comfortable atmosphere

    The not as good:
    - Wish they had more local beers on tap (but that is just me)

We arrived at 4 PM and we were able to get a table for 6. Service was attentive and we received our drinks quickly. We all took advantage of the Restaurant Week menu and placed our orders.

For the first course, most of us ordered the Gyoza, which are either steam or pan fried dumplings. These were fantastic. I had them steamed. They didn't skimp on the amount of food either. Eight dumplings were perfect.

For the second course, I had the Chicken Pot Pie, which was great for a cold day. They flavors were all there. I appreciated that it was not overly salty. Perfect! The star course at our table was the Fire Lion King. It was a type of sushi roll that came to the table with open flames. I got to try some and it was tasty!

For dessert, I had the Apple Crisp, which was homemade and served in a little cast iron skillet. It was excellent.

Everyone enjoyed their food. I could have easily gotten anything on the Restaurant Week menu and have been happy. It was well worth the $.

Service the entire time was great.

They do have outdoor seating for when the weather is nicer. Will have to come back.

There were people waiting for tables by the time we left. A good sign.
